ThinkTheatre’s Aim For 2012

  • To continue to serve and develop our KZN outreach, both in the theatre spaces of the Playhouse Company and the Hilton College Theatre, as well as the school halls of Dundee, Ladysmith, Newcastle, Port Shepstone, Richard’s Bay and Empangeni, and to continue to grow the numbers from 2400 in 2003 to 19 000 in 2012, and beyond.
  • To be able to provide more assistance to the indigent schools in these areas by way of free tickets and transport through the assistance of sponsorship.
  • To grow our audience in Johannesburg, Pretoria and the surrounds from our initial “toe in the water” trial in 2009 of 4000 learners in one week’s performance, to its increase in 2011 to 6300 learners (and simply not enough seats). In 2011 we have secured 3 weeks at the University of Johannesburg in order to accommodate this ongoing growth.
  • To take the brand further, into Cape Town and by way of getting there, stops in the Eastern Cape including of course the centres of East London and Port Elizabeth. This will be a first for us, but our Gauteng experience has taught us that the risk has rewards. Also the teacher enquiries demand we take the leap.
  •
  • We are aware that the ThinkTheatre production of the mandatory Shakespeare is the leading brand of its kind in the country at present, our wish is that it is able to reach as many people as possible.
  •
  • To continue to devise innovative ways to reach the most indigent communities in all the areas of our travels, and to afford them the ability to witness the performance howsoever it has to be staged.
